Coming up --
our Silent Auction
GET ON THE BALL is the way Silent Auction
Chairman Jean Patterson puts it. Our annual silent auction, held in
conjunction with our Christmas party, is closer than you think. Jean has heard
from only a few members, and we will have only two more meetings before the
party on Saturday, December 4, at the 19th Century Club.
We need a lot of good donations if we hope to reach the $6000 goal. Get in touch with Jean and let her know what you are going to donate. The money is used to provide scholarships for deserving local area students.

Last week’s
meeting
In his invocation, Jerry Daws included a testimonial to
Joanne Dahler.
Gary Rutherford was proud to present his guest – his mother, Mabel Rutherford.
What it’s like
to be a chef
Jody Hall, Corporate Director of Food and Beverages for
Davidson Hotels, did a great job of filling in as our speaker when the original
speaker was forced to cancel because her home had just been vandalized.
Jody kept us laughing as he told about his experiences as a chef. His story
about standing up to Howie Long of Oakland Raiders fame demanded the recipe for
Jody’s turkey stuffing.
Jody talked about what makes a restaurant work
and the thin margin that restaurateurs work with. There was a lively Q&A period.
When asked about the food services at Chickasaw, he said the food and service
are outstanding.
Personal notes
Lots of Rotarians and hundreds of other friends and relatives attended the funeral Mass for Joanne Dahler at the Church of the Holy Spirit last Saturday. Donations in Joanne’s name should be sent either to the Church of the Holy Spirit or the Brooks Museum.
Al Hollingworth was a witness to the Reverse of the Curse – he was a spectator in St. Louis as the Red Sox defeated the Cardinals in the third game of the World Series. "Most of the spectators were Cards fans, but everything was friendly," said Al.
Remember those cute twins who came to our Grandfather Day celebration with their grandfather, Bob Neal? They’re growing up fast – they’re three years old now.
Lee Whipple and his wife Shirley "had more fun than the law allows" as they toured the desert country of Santa Fe, Phoenix, Tucson and the Gold Coast of California. "The scenery was overpowering," said Lee. "Maybe we could have our Marine Air Corps reunion out that way." Lee was a Marine before he was disabled by polio.
