Today’s meeting
06/12/09 – 11:45 a.m. – Chickasaw Country Club – Program: Roy Cash, Captain, USN, ret. God & Country/Military & Combat Program coordinator: Lee Whipple
Roy Cash is a retired U. S. Navy Captain with a distinguished record of service to his country. Roy is a true Memphian; he attended various grade and elementary schools in Memphis and graduated from Treadwell High School in 1957. Later in 1962 he received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Memphis. In the two years immediately prior to entering the Navy, Roy also worked at a local radio station as a staff announcer and news broadcaster.
In January 1963, Roy entered Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy on May 17, 1963. He reported to the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida for flight training. On July 4, 1963, Roy married Billie Hall of Memphis in the Naval Aviation Memorial Chapel in Pensacola. On completion of flight training, he was presented his Navy Wings of Gold, and Roy and Billie began their 30-year Navy adventure.
Military assignments included Navy Fighter Squadrons (VF-101, VF-41, VF-33, VF-121, VF-213); 58th Tactical Fighter Wing, Luke AFB, Arizona (USAF); The Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island; Staff, Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon; and six consecutive tours of duty as Unit Commanding Officer: (1) Fighter Squadron Thirty-One (VF-31); (2) the U. S. Navy’s elite and prestigious TOPGUN Squadron; (3) Carrier Air Wing Fourteen; (4) Fighter Wing One; (5) USS El Paso; and (6) Amphibious Squadron Two. Following his Command tours, Roy was assigned as Chief of Staff for Operations, NATO Staff in Norfolk, Virginia. Roy served his last two years in the Navy as Deputy and Chief of Staff for The Chief of Naval Technical Training at NAS Memphis, and retired in September 1993 as Captain, USN.

Horn Lake, MS to start Rotary club organizational meetings in June
The Rotary Club of Horn Lake will start organizational meetings after June 2nd when the Horn Lake city elections will be over. Already several folks have committed to join the new club including the Mayor. If you know someone in the Horn Lake area who would be interested in becoming a Prospective Charter Member please call Dick Wieland at 901-270-3778.
