03/31/06: 11:45 a.m. at Chickasaw Country Club.
Program to be announced.
Important dates to keep in mind
04/21-04/22: District Conference. Memphis Hilton.
The sponsoring organization is the Germantown Rotary Club. Our club’s
Jean Patterson has been asked by District Governor Vijay to serve
again as chair of the silent auction.
Jean is arranging for auction items from our club to be
donated to the District auction. If you or your business would like to take
part by making a donation, please contact Jean at her office—332-5586, ext.
1295.
04/21: No meeting at Chickasaw. Instead, we will
join other members of Rotary District 6800 for the luncheon at the Memphis
Hilton. President John plans to make attendance sheets available at our
next three club meetings for those who plan to attend the luncheon on the
21st to sign up. Our club will use the funds normally earmarked to pay for
our lunch at Chickasaw to instead pay for lunch at the District Conference.
04/27-28-29: GSE team from southern Germany
will visit Memphis. Our club has been asked
to host the team. GSE team members represent several
professions: pharmacist, banker, lawyer, software developer and a general
manager for a city construction company. Contact Dick Wieland if you
would like to serve as a host or help coordinate the GSE team visit.
Last week’s meeting
The three “Johns” in the club were hard at work at last
week’s meeting! President John May presided. John Bennett
gave the invocation and led us in the pledge of allegiance. John
Shepherd introduced Ray Darby who was visiting our club for the second
time.
R. E. Linkous updated everyone on plans for our golf
tournament fund-raiser scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, May 18 at
Wyndyke Country Club. Ya’ll come! Bring your friends for a fun-filled day.
If golf is not your game you can still participate by coming out to sign in
the teams, drive the carts to deliver thirst-quenching drinks to the players
and more.
Dick Wieland provided an update on the GSE team’s
visit to Memphis and reminded us we will host the GSE team members on April
27-29.
The winner of the Floyd’s Fund drawing was NOT Carlton
Smith. Instead, R. E. Linkous held the winning ticket. R. E.
did follow Carlton’s example, though, and donated his winnings back to the
fund. We---and more importantly---the Scholarship Fund appreciate the boost
Floyd’s Fund has received in recent weeks from lucky ticket holders who
donate their share of the winnings back to the club.
And, can life get any better for Tom Michael???? He
was fortunate enough to once again be asked to stand in for Sgt.-at-Arms
Rick James. The editor heard through the club grapevine that Tom did an
outstanding job! Perhaps the powers-that-be should keep Tom in mind for
this important position for the 2006-07 Rotary year.
President John told me that Sally Shy, last
week’s speaker who talked about corporate etiquette, has made John’s life
easier. He says, “I was never certain which plate and food was mine when I
sat down at a formal table. Now, thanks to Sally, I will be sure to use the
“BMW” method for clarification. That’s Bread, Meal and Water,
working from left to right.”
