Last week’s meeting
President Jack Robinson welcomed us to the 1,581th meeting of our club. Harvey Marcom gave the invocation and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Because we were meeting off-site at the Racquet Club, as we are doing one more time this week, we did not have our club badges on hand, Carlton Smith was unable to sell raffle tickets for Floyd’s Fund and our sgt. at arms, Daniel Augustine, did not have the Wheel to spin. However, we expect all these activities and more to resume when we return to Chickasaw Country Club for our meeting on February 6th.
The program of the day was the first of two annual Fireside Chat meetings for 2009. This was an extremely important meeting because we discussed the future direction for our club. Serious numbers and statistics were shown on hand-outs that 23 active members of the club took home for review and more discussion at Fireside Chat #2 scheduled to take place at the Racquet Club on Friday, January 30th. We urge all active members to be at this meeting!
Items for discussion at the January 30th Fireside Chat include conducting an in-depth look at three options for our club:
(1) do nothing – continue on the status quo path
(2) address important issues confronting our club, analyze what we face, perhaps change our expectations for what we can accomplish as a group of 31 active members now compared to 60 active members 10-15 years ago
(3) possible merger with another club (in the opinion of the majority of members who attended the 01/23/09 meeting, this appears to be either a no option or a last-ditch option at this time)
Rick James, John May and Jack Robinson were members of the committee that compiled information and statistics for our review at the Fireside Chats and we thank them for performing this task.
John Shepherd moved and Tom Michael seconded the motion, that the next committee that will be formed to review all options be considered the “committee as a whole” which means that the committee will be comprised of all active members.
